Max Fry Bio
Captain Max Fry was born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in the town of Oxford. From the time he was 5 years old, he was starting to navigate the waters of the Chesapeake Bay with his father, Mitchell Fry, on his 30 ft Blackwatch. By the time Max was 7 he could run the boat under the supervision of his father. The two of them would fish the bay for striped bass at least 3 times a week during the fall, spring and summer. Mitchell made fishing and hunting a mandatory part of growing up for Max. Another major influence on Max’s life was Captain Justin Firth. Justin taught Max how to navigate the bay in search of big fish. He taught him different techniques of how to fish for striped bass during the different times of year. Whether it would be trolling in the fall, jigging in the winter, or casting light tackle in the spring, Justin was one of Max’s greatest mentors. Max’s first big fish was caught when he was only 9 years old, a 37″ 20lb striper caught jigging with Justin. Their photo of the fish hung on the register in Albright’s Gun Shop for about ten years. This was the fish that got Max hooked!
Since growing up here on the Eastern Shore, Max has traveled the world surfing and fishing. From working on sport fishing boats in Florida and the Bahamas to spearfishing reefs in Costa Rica and Indonesia, Max has refined his skills through a variety of different techniques. His experiences in different waters all around the world has made him the waterman he is today. With all of Max’s travels around the world, he is always drawn back to the Chesapeake Bay to pursue the fish he grew up chasing, the Rockfish. The past 10 years he has dedicated his life to fishing the Chesapeake Bay during the spring and fall season to chase striped bass on the fly and light tackle, catching big stripers up and in the mouths of rivers and tributaries in shallow water.
